Breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day. People with gluten allergies don't need to miss out with quick and easy breakfast ideas.

Gluten-Free Waffles

Those with allergies can feel confident heating up Van's Wheat Free Waffles (Original, Flax or Apple Cinnamon) in a toaster that isn't used for items that aren't gluten-free. Waffles can also be made in advance from a gluten free pancake mix, stored in a re-closeable bag and re-heated in a toaster on low. Waffles may be topped with fresh fruit and whipped cream or maple syrup.

Gluten-Free Pancakes

Gluten-Free pancake mixes such as Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Pancake mix abound. Pancakes can be made in advance and stored under refrigeration in re-sealabe bags. Pancakes may be re-heated in a stack, on a plate, in the microwave for 30 second to 1 minute.

Gluten-Free French Toast

  • 2 slices gluten-free bread
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1/4 tsp organic sugar
  • 1/8 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tablespoon Butter

Whisk egg, sugar and vanilla in a bowl. Dunk each slice of bread in mixture, flip and dunk other side. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Place each slice of battered bread in pre-heated saucepan and cook, turning once, 5 minutes or until browned. Gluten-free french toast may be stored and re-heated in the same manner as pancakes (above).

Gluten Free Bagels and English Muffins

Kinnikinnick Foods manufactures a gluten-free Tapioca Rice English Muffin and gluten-free New York Style and Cinnamon Bagels, through their website. Toasted foods for individuals sensitive to gluten should not be prepared in the same toaster as foods containing gluten.

Gluten-Free Yogurt Smoothies

Stonyfield Farms Organic Yogurt Smoothies are certified gluten-free by the GFCO, and make a healthy grab-and-go breakfast. Yogurt smoothies can be made at home by mixing fresh fruit, gluten-free yogurt or soy yogurt and milk or soymik in a blender. Homemade yogurt smoothies keep for about 2 days in an air tight container under refrigeration.

Hot and Cold Gluten-Free Cereals

Arrowhead Mills, Quinoa, Barbara's Bakery, Bob's Red Mill, EnviroKidz and Glutino are only a few of the manufacturers prducing gluten-free hot and cold breakfast cereals. Hot cereals like the gluten-free breakfast rice below can be made from leftover cooked rice.
